Village improves stormwater drainage issues

Bourbonnais, IL - The village announces the upcoming closure of US Route 45/52 between St. George Road and Burns Road beginning Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 7:00 a.m. The closure comes as a result of addressing stormwater drainage issues in the area. The drainage improvements coincide with Riverside Healthcare's expansion project at their Bourbonnais Campus. The property and the surrounding roadways are impacted by flooding caused by excessive stormwater accumulation. 

Board remains hopeful for 2020 occurrence

Bourbonnais, IL – Following careful consideration, the Bourbonnais Friendship Festival Board and Village of Bourbonnais announce the postponement of the Bourbonnais Friendship Festival until further notice. The 45th annual event, originally scheduled to take place Wednesday, June 24th through Sunday, June 28th, is the unofficial kick off to summer in the village. According to festival officials, the event dates can be rescheduled and flexible as-needed during alternative months (weather-permitting) and with consideration to other area festivals still scheduled.

Larry Power Road overpass to be demolished

Bourbonnais, IL - Beginning Monday, April 20, 2020, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will begin demolition of the existing Larry Power Road overpass as part of the replacement project over Interstate-57. As a result, I-57 will undergo four nightly closures from 7:00 p.m. - 5:30 a.m. with anticipated conclusion on Friday, April 24, 2020 at 5:30 a.m. Motorists will be detoured via the following routes:

Town tour scheduled for drive-by Easter experience

Bourbonnais, IL - As a result of the governor’s executive order in March, the Village of Bourbonnais instated COVID-19 preparedness measures for the health and safety of the community, including the cancellation of events. The Easter Egg Hunt was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 4th. The free community event held at the Children’s Safety Center is an annual Bourbonnais tradition. Determined to still spread some Easter spirit and put smiles on local children’s faces, the Easter bunny and village officials decided to host an ‘Easter Bunny Town Tour’ on Sunday, April 12, 2020.

Special Olympics Illinois awards Bourbonnais Police

Bourbonnais, IL — Special Olympics Illinois recently awarded the Bourbonnais Police Department with a gold medal recognition for their ‘Outstanding Financial Support to the 2019 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois’. This is the sixth consecutive year Bourbonnais Police have received this honor for raising over $15,000 annually. Bourbonnais Police ranked 33 out of a total 125 departments for raising over $24,000 in 2019 benefiting Special Olympics Illinois athletes.

Reduces risk of COVID-19 for employees

Bourbonnais, IL - The Village of Bourbonnais' waste removal and disposal contractor, Republic Services, has announced temporary modified service as a result of the current coronavirus pandemic. The recent surge in residential waste and unique challenges faced require modified service offerings to keep the community clean and safe.

Village offers online questionnaire

Bourbonnais, IL - The Village of Bourbonnais invited the public to a Community Open House on Thursday, March 5, 2020 as a part of their engagement outreach for the Community Campus Plan. In the fall of 2019, the village announced its plans to create a dynamic and attractive central core for community gatherings around the Municipal Center and surrounding areas. The open house event followed a recent Community Campus Plan online survey in which over 1,100 participants shared input and ideas in response to the village’s engagement efforts to ‘Imagine Bourbonnais’. To provide an additional input opportunity, the village is now offering the open house questionnaire online for those who were unable to attend the recent event.

Bridge replacement project to begin 

Bourbonnais, IL - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) confirmed the Larry Power Road overpass will be closed to traffic beginning Wednesday, March 25, 2020. The bridge located over Interstate-57 will undergo replacement similar to the recent St. George Road overpass project. According to IDOT officials, the overpass replacement is expected to last the entire construction season, with some work carried over into 2021 (weather-permitting). They are hopeful to reopen the new bridge to traffic this calendar year, pending no delays.
