Bourbonnais, IL - Our Public Works team has been working diligently to limit mosquitos in our area. While they have been treating standing water over the past several weeks, our Public Works trucks will start their seasonal 'fogging' soon. Public Works Director, Terry Memenga, would like to inform our residents about the process of mosquito fogging in our area.
"With May in our rearview mirror, June brings a new set of tasks for the crews. In addition to all the mowing that keep us busy, our mosquito abatement program is in full swing. We have been treating standing water over the past several weeks and will begin the “fogging” operation soon."
"This process is designed to kill mosquitos on contact. While the product is deadly to mosquitos, it is not toxic to humans. While you do not want to stand in front of the machine, small amounts caught in the breeze are not significant enough to harm a person of normal health. If you should have an underlying condition (such as asthma) you should probably avoid this."
"Our ideal spraying time is when the mosquitos are most active, which is sunset and sunrise. Our crew will utilize a variety of these times to patrol the neighborhoods. We do not fog in the rain or when it is windy. The “fogger” uses a mist of water with the chemical introduced to the mist to fog. If we encounter people while on patrol, they will turn off the supply of the chemical, while the machine continues to mist."
