Program Partnership with ComEd Underway

Bourbonnais, IL – The Village of Bourbonnais recently announced their enrollment in the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program. This public sector incentive provides the opportunity to reduce energy consumption and save maintenance costs through building optimization via LED technology. 11 initial upgrade projects will provide an estimated energy cost savings of over $500,000 to the village over the next 20 years.

The program is inclusive of incentives for energy-efficient LED lighting, including replacements and retrofits. The village confirmed participation in upgrading a total of 227 lighting fixtures including those at parks, pavilions, village buildings and street lights.

“Any opportunities where the village can reduce energy, we are happy to be a part of,” explained Mayor Schore. “We are always trying to find ways to further improve our sustainability efforts, and this program offers multiple benefits.”

The Public Works building, located at 255 Mooney Drive, recently underwent the LED lighting upgrade with 81 fixtures. The completed project was fully funded by ComEd at $29,000, according to Building Commissioner, Bob Steinke. Following completion of the 11 planned Village of Bourbonnais projects, the ComEd total investment is projected at over $43,000. The Village of Bourbonnais’ contribution totals $24,000 with only a three-year return on the investment.

In addition to the decrease in energy consumption and lighting maintenance costs, the village will further see savings in longer light lifespan. The new LED lighting fixtures are estimated to last approximately 20 years versus the current village lighting fixtures, which require replacement every five years.
