Secret Food Pantry will continue pop-up events
Bourbonnais, IL – The Village of Bourbonnais is pleased to provide the Secret Food Pantry with an ongoing location to host its reoccurring mobile pop-up event, and Bourbonnais Township will donate $5,000 to the non-profit. Following a well-attended event in January hosted at Court Street Ford, the Secret Food Pantry’s founder and organizer, MaryLu Kruegr, reached out for additional sites to host future mobile pantry events in Bourbonnais.
The Secret Food Pantry’s next mobile pop-up event will take place Thursday, April 1st from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Bourbonnais Municipal Center parking lot at 700 Main Street NW. This site will be a Bourbonnais base for the mobile pantry to operate every first and third Thursday of the month at various times.
Additionally, Bourbonnais Township will be providing the organization with a check for $5,000 to support the cause.
“This is just one example of what happens when local organizations work together,” explained Mayor Paul Schore. “We are happy to help with a much-needed location for the mobile pantry to operate and offer resources from the Bourbonnais Police Department to assist with traffic safety. Bourbonnais Township further stepped in to provide a monetary contribution. It’s a win-win for our community in need.”
According to Kruegr, anyone can come for food; there are no residential or financial restrictions. The pantry instructs attendees not to arrive more than 30 minutes prior and to follow a designated route per the Bourbonnais Police Department, which will be assisting with traffic logistics.
For those who are in need, take Route 102/Main Street NW and turn on Stratford Drive East. Follow event signage to William Latham Senior Drive where vehicles will be staged while awaiting entry for food pickup. Pantry organizers ask that attendees do not block any residential or commercial driveways while waiting.
The Secret Food Pantry, based out of Godley, accepts financial donations at Financial Plus Credit Union locations. Volunteers are always welcome. Interested parties may reach out to The Original Secret Pantry group on Facebook.
