Record village funds collected for Christmas Shop with a Cop
Bourbonnais, IL - The Village of Bourbonnais is pleased to announce funds collected for the annual 'Change for Children' campaign benefiting the 'Christmas Shop with a Cop' program totaled $3,697.17. This record-breaking amount is a 44% increase over the 2018 funds gathered for the village’s contributions to the county-wide program. The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department hosts 'Christmas Shop with a Cop' in conjunction with the Bourbonnais Police Department and local law enforcement. The 28th annual event is scheduled to take place this Sunday, December 15, 2019.
The Village of Bourbonnais annually holds the 'Change for Children' campaign to support 'Christmas Shop with a Cop' by accepting donations at all village facilities. Village employees, businesses and residents made donations through Monday, December 9, 2019. The Bourbonnais Police Department made additional contributions with incentive to continue their 'No Shave November' into the month of December.
“We cannot thank the community enough. The generosity and support of our residents, businesses and employees speaks volumes,” explained Mayor Paul Schore. “The goal is always to collect more than the year prior and to be able to help more children in Kankakee County. Together, we are making a change.”
The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department announced with this year's total collections, 'Shop with a Cop' will include 90 children participating between the ages of six and 12 years old, as well as, shopping for an additional 27 children at home. 74 officers will pick up the children at home and take them to breakfast at McDonald's. Following breakfast, the children will shop at Meijer for gifts for themselves and those at home. Blain's Farm & Fleet will also be donating toys filled in the Bourbonnais Police Department's Hum-V. Wal-Mart will be donating Christmas food baskets for the children to take home to their 57 families.
The Kankakee County Sheriff's Department confirmed this is the largest year with the most children able to participate. A special thank you to EVERYONE who made a change for children this holiday season!
