Motorists warned to use caution

Bourbonnais, IL - A recent IDOT update confirms the St. George Road overpass may soon be open to traffic as early as the end of next week. The joint project includes the Kankakee County Highway Department and the Vilage of Bourbonnais. It was previously announced the overpass was to be demolished and replaced with a new structure that is both motorist and pedestrian-friendly. The roadway has been closed to traffic since April 2019 with an expectation to reopen in winter 2020. The project is nearing a point where it can be safely opened to traffic.

Following the reopening of the roadway, IDOT confirms 25% of the project remains to be completed during the spring and summer under warmer conditions. Motorists should expect lane closures with flaggers throughout spring and summer. Until warmer weather permits, the top layers of asphalt cannot be poured; therefore, motorists should use caution while entering and exiting the project limits and along the newly-constructed bridge where temporary ramps are in place. Rougher road conditions will apply.

This is the first in a series of overpass and infrastructure projects planned throughout Bourbonnais. Following the completion of the St. George Road overpass, Larry Power Road will be the next to undergo the same demolition and bridge replacement with new walkways and safety lighting. Updates will be provided as they become available so motorists can plan accordingly for the road closure.

We thank you in advance for your patience!
